Let’s talk puppy grooms for a sec.

But first, LOOK AT HOW PRECIOUS THESE BABIES ARE 🥹😭🫶🏼

Meet 🤎Shalako and 🖤Groot

Some people, mostly unethical breeders, will say you should not get your puppies groomed until they are about a year old.

Absolutely not true, and quite literally the worst thing you can do.

Why you might ask?
Let me explain.

It takes time and consistency for a dog to learn how to behave for grooming. First up is the bath. Then blow drying. Then brushing. Then the haircut and toe nails. All things that can potentially be dangerous if the dog is displaying behaviors such as fear, anxiety, restlessness, uncertainty, etc.
It’s much easier to work with an uncooperative puppy than it is a full grown uncooperative dog. Puppies are still learning the new ways of life because EVERYTHING is new to them.
Now take, let’s say, a 100 pound doodle that has barely even left the house before. They already have an established routine… and grooming is not part of it. Can you imagine how that goes? 🙃

I could dive deeper into this, but I think you get the message. As groomers, we are using SHARP tools on your pets. If you have not done your part in helping your pet learn that grooming is a part of their life, you are setting your pet and groomer up for an unfair arrangement, and potentially a dangerous one.

In short, as long as your puppy is current on age appropriate vaccines… SCHEDULE THAT APPOINTMENT. 📆
The sooner the better!!

Tis the season of finding random things in the coats of summer shave down dogs. I think my top favorites have been an owners fake eye lashes or a whole family of live beetles that had burrow their way under a matted Pyrenees coat.
