Private equity creates planning windows before liquidity, not after. Illiquid assets stretch decisions across time, and that stretch is where charitable planning has the most room to work.

Advisors who introduce giving intent early help clients do something specific: separate what they want to do from what they have to do, and values-driven decisions from financially driven ones. That separation gets harder to make once a transaction is in motion.

When assets get complex, the right question isn't "Do I know enough yet?" It's "Is this early enough?"

Several high-profile IPOs are on the horizon. For advisors with clients who hold pre-IPO equity, the charitable planning conversation should already be underway.

The window to establish the right structures is shorter than most advisors expect. Decisions made before a liquidity event look very different from decisions made after.

On July 16, Jeff Christie and Craig Buchanan walk through which charitable vehicles fit which client situations, and how to lead the planning conversation before clients face a liquidity decision without a strategy in place.

On June 11, Craig Buchanan, Complex Asset Strategist at Ren, and Jeff Christie, VP Client Advancement at Ren, walk through the three planning windows advisors should understand, how DAFs and charitable trusts fit different client situations, and the key questions that shape the strategy.
