Most families can expect to be in or around the water this summer, which makes safety planning even more important this time of year. June is National Safety Month, so we're sharing 8 practical water safety tips and takeaways for families.

💧 Expose kids to water at a young age.
💧 Invest in swim lessons—YMCA and many community centers offer classes for kids with special needs, and some organizations offer scholarships.
💧 Ensure adult supervision in AND around water—monitoring anywhere near water is the key prevention to drowning.
💧 Be patient with your kid—Understand sensory needs and take time to get them comfortable.
💧 Take breaks.
💧 Secure bodies of water when not in use—Use layers of protection with locked doors, door alarms and pool gates, especially for those who wander.
💧 Ask questions—Call the public pool to learn about less crowded times or special programs.
