Indiana Beef
Yesterday evening (June 3, 2026), USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that USDA has confirmed the first case of New World Screwworm in the United States in La Pryor, Texas.
What Indiana producers need to know:
- The food supply is safe. NWS is a live-animal pest and does not impact food supply.
- Though no additional cases have been confirmed, producers should stay aware of the situation and continue to educate themselves. Inspect your livestock, as early detection and rapid response are most effective to combat this pest.
- IBCA encourages producers to create or maintain a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship with their local veterinarian.
- Misinformation and panic are detrimental to the cattle business. Please seek information from trusted sources to minimize the spread of false information.
IBCA will continue to monitor the situation and keep members informed. Please visit www.screwworm.gov or www.indianabeef.org for more resources and the most up-to-date information.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
This Memorial Day, as we gather with family and friends around the grill, we are reminded that the freedoms we enjoy, including the simple joy of sharing a good meal, come at a cost.
From all of us at the Indiana Beef Cattle Association, thank you to our heroes. We remember, we honor, and we will never forget.
