At age 102, America says farewell to Jessie Alton Mahaffey, the final survivor of the battleship USS Oklahoma's capsizing on December 7, 1941. As a young sailor, Jessie miraculously clawed his way out of the sinking hull, escaping the fate that tragically sealed 429 of his shipmates within the deep. His survival story carried the terrible weight of Pearl Harbor. Months later, he survived another sinking aboard the USS Northampton, forever carrying the scars of two naval disasters. Now, his long, lonely journey of remembrance is complete. He has finally rejoined the shipmates he never stopped mourning, leaving us with the profound, solemn duty to keep the Oklahoma's story alive. May they all rest in eternal formation. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβš“
