Hope Academy
Hope Academy is a nationally recognized, tuition-free, Indiana public charter high school for teens in recovery from substance use issues. Surrounded by teachers who care and students who understand, we provide a setting where teens can concentrate on getting better and earning a degree.
Graduation is more than a ceremony at Hope Academy.
It represents hard work, growth, recovery, and the decision to keep moving forward—even when the path isn't easy.
In this video, members of the Class of 2026 reflect on their journeys, what they've learned about themselves, and what graduation means to them. Their stories are reminders that recovery and education can move forward together.

Congratulations to Briana U, recipient of the 2026 Jim Barnes Scholarship!
Jim Barnes has been a longtime supporter of Hope Academy and a passionate advocate for the arts and young people in our community. Several of his works are displayed throughout the school, serving as a reminder of the creativity, expression, and inspiration that art brings into our lives.
Each year, the Jim Barnes Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior pursuing their educational goals. This year, Bri was selected as the recipient of the $1,000 scholarship award.
As Bri looks ahead to college and a future in early education, this scholarship helps support the next chapter of her journey.
Hope Academy was also honored to award the 2026 Dr. Sigurd H. Zielke Memorial Scholarship to valedictorian Giovanni O. Established by Ben Gonzales and Deb Zielke Phelps, the scholarship honors Dr. Zielke's lasting legacy as a co-founder of Hope Academy and champion for young people in recovery.
Congratulations, Bri—and congratulations to all of this year's scholarship recipients!

Hope Academy is proud to be part of the Simon Youth Foundation (S*F) network, a partnership that has supported our students since 2021 through scholarships, educational opportunities, and student support.
At this year’s graduation ceremony, two members of the Class of 2026 were recognized with Simon Youth Academy scholarships for their academic achievement, perseverance, and future goals.
🎓 Giovanni O. received the Simon Youth Academy Scholarship in Honor of Max Simon, totaling $12,500 over two years. Gio will attend Ivy Tech this fall to study automotive technology.
🎓 Reggie W. received a Simon Youth Academy Scholarship totaling $18,000 over four years. Reggie will attend Indiana University Bloomington to study psychology and social work as he works toward becoming a therapist.
These scholarships represent more than financial support—they reflect the hard work, growth, and determination these students have shown throughout their journeys.
We’re grateful for Simon Youth Foundation’s continued investment in Hope Academy students and proud to celebrate Gio and Reggie as they take their next steps forward.

“You cannot put this group in a box. Every student’s story is different. Every path to recovery is different. And every graduate in Hope Academy’s Class of 2026 brought something unique to this community. Growth does not look the same for everyone. And that’s a good thing.”
— Josh Johnson, Hope Academy Recovery Coach
The Class of 2026 brought different experiences, strengths, personalities, and paths to Hope Academy. Together, they shaped a graduating class defined not by sameness, but by individuality, resilience, and growth.
