👀 Let’s Talk About Peanut’s Eyes ❤️🐾
We’ve received a lot of questions and concern about our newest senior, Peanut, especially after seeing photos of his eyes. We wanted to take a moment to explain what’s going on.
Peanut is believed to have a severe case of Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS), more commonly known as dry eye. KCS occurs when the tear glands don’t produce enough tears to keep the eyes healthy and lubricated. Without those protective tears, the eyes become painfully dry, inflamed, and prone to infection. Over time, thick discharge, scarring, and even blindness can occur if left untreated.
When Peanut arrived at the shelter, the recommendation from their veterinarian was either enucleation (surgical removal of the eyes) or euthanasia. Thankfully, Peanut is now safe with Silver Snout, and we’re not making any decisions without gathering more information.
This week, Peanut will be seeing our veterinarian for a second opinion. We want to determine whether his eyes can be medically managed or if removing one or both eyes is truly the kindest option for him.
While the photos may be difficult to look at, we want everyone to know that blind dogs can live incredibly happy, full lives, and if eye removal becomes the best way to relieve Peanut’s pain, it will not stop him from enjoying life. In fact, many dogs are much happier once painful eyes are removed.
Thank you for caring so deeply about this sweet old boy. ❤️ We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated after his veterinary appointment. Please keep Peanut in your thoughts as we work to give him the comfortable, pain-free future he deserves. 🥜🐶

🐾 Exie Update 🐾
Sweet Exie had his first visit with our vet yesterday, and we wanted to let everyone know how he’s doing. ❤️
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to perform his skin biopsies just yet because his skin has too much active infection. The good news is we have a plan! Exie has started a course of antibiotics, and once the infection is under control, we’ll move forward with the biopsies to determine exactly what’s causing these severe skin issues.
A huge thank you to Dr. Elston, who carefully shaved around Exie’s wounds to help us keep them clean and make treatment much easier. Over the next several weeks, Exie will be getting medicated baths every few days along with lots of TLC as we work to get him comfortable.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated toward Exie’s veterinary care and to those who have purchased items from his Amazon wishlist. Your generosity has already made a difference for this deserving boy, and we couldn’t do this without you. 💙
Please keep Exie in your thoughts as we continue his healing journey. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way! 🐾
