She could have used her retirement savings for herself. Instead, she created a village in Texas where women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s never have to feel alone.

At 70, Robyn Yerian from Cumby, Texas decided that retirement didn’t have to mean isolation. She invested about $150,000 of her own savings to build The Bird’s Nest, a tiny-home community on five acres designed for older women who might otherwise be aging alone. The residents include women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, many of them single, widowed, or divorced.

Rent begins at roughly $450 per month, making it accessible for those on fixed incomes. Each resident has her own private tiny home, but the layout encourages connection. A shared pavilion serves as a space for cooking and gathering, and neighbors regularly check in on one another. Whether someone needs a ride, help during recovery, or simply companionship, support is close by.

It’s not assisted living, it’s a shared community. A small village built so no one has to grow older feeling isolated.
