“Does Shoeing Hurt the Horse?”
For those of you who are curious or concerned about whether shoeing is painful for horses—meet Sam.
This video was taken during a routine farrier visit. Sam recently started wearing shoes, so he wasn’t raised with them. But here he is—literally dozing off while the farrier works on his hooves. No medication. No sedation. Just trust, a calm environment, and a skilled professional.
Shoeing, when done correctly by a trained farrier, isn’t painful for the horse. In fact, it’s part of regular care to keep them comfortable, especially when they’re working, trail riding, or navigating different terrain.
Sam is proof that good handling, proper care, and a relaxed environment make all the difference. He’s safe, sound, and clearly unbothered.
Let’s keep educating and showing what real horsemanship looks like—because the well-being of the horse always comes first.
