Zing Mini Discs

So are you all ready to blow your minds on what kind of plastic your discs and other plastic items are made of? Well, here you go. There are very simple ways of identifying your simple plastic items that you use from day to day. This chart was formulated by an engineering group where we developed these tasks to see what polymer family we were working with. The bad part about the tests are that the specimens will go through some destructive testing .
All you need is a glass of water, a lighter or propane torch, and a knife to cut a sliver of the specimen. And please remember your chemistry class on how to smell something. (whiff your hand above the item you are smelling, don't put your nose directly in it, ....dummy)
Boiler Plate: I am not responsible for any of your testing procedures. Do this at your own risk!!!
Have fun and I'd like to hear some feedback of what you test!!
I'd like to make a general post about the same manufacturers mold, different runs, and colors that are used. It happens with every injection molded disc, mini, or widget for this matter.
With that said. The prime uncolored, plastic used for a particular model will be very consistent from shot to shot. These shots will be clear in color and consistent with the way they feel and the weight of each disc. Simply, Consistent.
Now. Add colorant. The colorant is made from different organic and inorganic additives. TiO2 (used for white) and Carbon black for black discs for example. One would think Carbon black is heavier than titanium dioxide. Maybe? Check it out on your own discs.
Each colorant added to golf discs contains different elements of additives that affect the 4 plastic variables in injection molding. (temperature, flow, pressure, and cooling). These colorants are considered impurities to the natural (base) plastic and can will possibly affect the outcome of the finished disc.
So. For those of you that have a similar mold of disc, and in the same weight, the color may affect the feel, flight, and performance of the given disc.
I'm open for thoughts and comments on this topic.
