The club's new HO scale Alabama Tennessee & Northern Railroad covers an area 48' by 20'. Through the years the club has enjoyed accomplishment and dealt with devastation. It has hosted four Southeastern Region (NMRA) conventions and was instrumental in starting Division activity within that region. Our fourth layout is well underway. The layout represents a proto-freelanced AT&N extension into Bir
mingham Al, and is set in between 1958 and 1970 to represent the last years before Formal absorption by parent company Frisco in 1970. The railroad has been retrofitted for operations and runs on a simplified car forwarding system with a passenger schedule. Plans also call for implementation of a full dispatcher controlled signaling system that can be switched between either Automatic Block Signaling or dispatcher-controlled CTC for operating sessions. Layout Information:
-- HO scale, Digitrax DCC powered
-- Benchwork is a mix of traditional open grid/L-girder and lightweight foam.
-- The layout is a proto-freelanced representation of locations in and around Birmingham, Alabama.
-- The layout has two on-scene classsification yards and two staging yards.
-- 20+ industries, including a coal mining branch.
-- Informal operating sessions are on the first of the month with Radio Dispatch sessions roughly every three months on Saturday afternoon.
-- Active and expanding modular layout
