Imagine getting in the 33rd ranked medical school in the country with a 3.3 and a 34th percentile MCAT!
Rural shadowing, community service and evidence of leadership is essential.
Call me Alabama 256-508-2189!!!
Applications open today.
This is under UAB SOM Special Apps.
AMCAS comes later.
Remember on your app. point out rural roots, activities, family. Emphasize rural shadowing of primary care physicians.
Last year we interviewed 19 applicants for 24 places. We got about 24 total applications, some were not from rural Alabama. Virtually all who are interviewed are accepted and go to UAB SOM.
Please consider us if you get an MCAT of 495 or better.
The doctors pictured above have graduated and moved on. I will fondly remember each of their stories and remain proud to have been a small part of their journey. One will seldom meet a finer group of young Americans.
I will post the nest class soon.
For those looking at the 2021 application cycle the UAB SOM rural special application opens the beginning of November. Those from urban Alabama or those interested in subspecialties should not apply. We welcome rural Alabamians interested in FM, pediatrics or IM, but FM is by far the most needed specialty in the state.

I hope everyone has a safe and merry Christmas.
The RMP application season is open.
You may hold a regular admission UAB waitlist and an RMP acceptance until spring before you must choose, so all rural Alabama students committed to rural family medicine should apply.
‘63 AU alum, Dr. Hugh Bassham authored a book, Better Health and How to Achieve It.

And so it goes...
In another vein I am looking forward to applications to the RMP; get them in ASAP so I will have sufficient time for perusal.
