In his Open Your Back class, Deepak Bhardwaj teaches you to use your spine to bend your spine instead of using the arms to help bend the spine. The repetitions in the class allow you to build the strength in the thoracic spine. Once the thoracic spine is strong the upper back/chest/rib cage will bend as well allowing you to stay out of the lower back (lumbar spine) which will naturally backward bend anyway.
Deepak's technique for backward bending involves using the entire spine not just the lumbar spine. Deep backward bending requires strength and flexibility of the entire spine and the class helps you develop both and understand the balance between the two.

Giselle and I are getting so excited to be joining forces and teach our P.E.A.K. Immersion! It's just around the corner: June 8 -13th. Have you signed up yet?
P.E.A.K. (Perform Extraordinary Athletic Kinetics) Immersion is designed to optimize your mind-body connection and awareness using yoga and other movement modalities. We will go into the Ashtanga primary series in depth. We will learn and practice the series, including its ceremony, rituals and breathing techniques. We will maximize each individual's performance through classes devoted to HIIT, stretching and other movement methodologies. Our goal is to help participants tailor their own Ashtanga practice and begin an affiliation with the the life-long P.E.A.K. program. We hope the benefits of participating in our P.E.A.K. Immersion experience will last long after a week well spent at the Ranch with Alison and Giselle (and friends).
