1941- 2019
Marshall Ray Thompson 78, of Kenova, WV passed away, Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Kings Daughter’s Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Marshall was born on October 12, 1941, to the late Amos and Della Thompson. Two brothers Robert and Billy and two sisters Dolores and Gladys also precede him in death.
Marshall dedicated 30 years of his life to our country through service in the United States Navy. The Navy afforded him opportunities to travel the world as he was often on ships or stationed in foreign countries. However, there is no place like home and while on leave when he was just a young man, he fell in love with a hometown girl that he loved deeply till the day he died. They had 51 years of a loving marriage. When Marshall retired from the US Navy as Master Chief, he moved his family to Louisa, KY where he ultimately became a barber and greenhouse owner. Marshall never failed to have a joke ready on hand or a funny story to tell. His smile was infectious and as sick as he was at times; he always put others before him and worried for others well-being. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was most important; the simplicity of living a life with those you love over material possessions.
Our hearts are heavy for the loss of such a great man but we rejoice in knowing he is with our heavenly father, reunited with loved ones. It can be difficult to put into words, the measure of a man’s life, when he meant so much to so many. They say the measure of your worth and your deeds will be the love you leave behind when you are gone. Marshall’s absence will leave a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved him and he will be greatly missed.

We want to honor the man he was, servant of God, devoted father of four, faithful loving husband to the love of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois, son Shawn and wife Teresa of Savannah, GA, son Mark and wife Pal of Orlando, FL, daughter Michelle of Kenova, WV, daughter Teresa and husband Bill Bailey of Ceredo, WV, one sister Marcella of Kenova, WV, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, November 7th from 6-8 PM at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME in Ashland KY. A celebration of his life service will be held on Friday, November 8th at 11 AM at Westwood United Baptist Church (where he was a devoted member for 42 years) located on Hood’s Creeks Pike in Ashland, KY. Service will be officiated by Elders Clarence Thompson Jr, Ike Flaugher, and Clayton Oliver. Burial with military honors will take place at Dock’s Creek Cemetery Kenova, WV immediately following the service.

Message from Owner: We were visiting friends in Ceredo, WV Saturday Jan 6, 2018 and our dog ran off. He was spotted several times on Sunday, but we have not seen him since. He may have on a blue sweater. He was a rescue, and is used to the streets, however, he will likely run if anyone chases him. He may come to you if you offer him treats. He answers to Parker. We are from out of town, but are coming back as often as we can to look. Please help us, there is a reward. Thanks.

2nd Degree Unlawful transaction with a minor
