Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
In the busyness of Memorial Day, I am so grateful for those who pause to honor the true meaning of sacrifice. A special God bless to the managerial staff at the Burger King of Kenova! I took my dad there to eat yesterday evening and found a moving "Missing Man" empty table prepared for the holiday. Both my dad and my grandfather, Jim Donahoe, served our country during Vietnam and WWII. I deeply appreciate their military service and their willingness to face life-threatening opposition. Despite bringing home difficult, post-traumatic memories that my dad still copes with today, they both became the absolute best fathers they could be. That empty table filled my heart with hope, honor, and admiration. God bless Burger King, our community, our wonderful state and our blessed nation! We truly wish our Timberwolf nation a blessed Memorial Day!
This table is RESERVED to honor our Fallen Heroes!
A small table, set for one, is in a place of honor. The table and empty chair is our way of acknowledging that members of our military are missing from our midst.
The tablecloth is white, symbolic of the purity of their intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms.
A single red rose in a vase signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America.
A red ribbon around the vase represents the hopes and prayers of thousands of military families and friends who waited for the safe return of their loved ones.
A wedge of lemon on the bread plate reminds us of the bitter fate of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
A pinch of salt sprinkled on the bread plate is symbolic of the countless fallen tears of families and friends as they mourn their loss.
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from a country founded as one nation under God.
The stemmed glass placed upside down represents their inability to share our toast and all of life’s hope and dreams never realized by those who were lost.
The lighting of the candle serves to remind us of the ultimate sacrifice our fallen heroes and their families have made to preserve the precious freedom we all cherish today.
The number 22 represents the number of veterans that take their own lives each day. For some, the battle still rages long after they return home.

John 15:12-13 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
