Did you know that America’s favorite morning treat has a sneaky side? 🍩
We all love a fresh, soft doughnut with our morning coffee. But because of their dense, doughy, and often sticky texture, baked goods like doughnuts are actually a surprisingly common choking hazard—especially for young kids and older adults!
Choking is a leading cause of unintentional injury, but it is almost entirely preventable with mindful munching. When an emergency does happen, seconds count. Knowing exactly what to do can make all the difference.
Before you take your next bite, remember these quick tips:
Chew thoroughly: Doughnuts can compact easily into a thick mass; taking smaller bites is key.
Sit down & focus: Avoid eating while running around or driving.
Supervise the little ones: Cut treats into smaller, manageable pieces for young children.
Prevention is always the first step, but confidence in an emergency is the ultimate safety net. At Upbeat CPR, we bring life-saving skills directly to you. Our mobile training is designed to give you hands-on, practical knowledge in the comfort of your own space—so you, your family, or your team are always ready to respond calmly and effectively.
Let's keep breakfast delicious and safe!

This Memorial Day, while we pause to honor those who served, many of us will be gathering around the grill in The Woodlands, Deer Park, and across the Houston metroplex.
To keep your cookout from becoming a medical emergency, remember these two "Backyard Hero" protocols:
🔥 1. The "Cool Down" for Minor Burns
If the grill bites back, forget the butter or ice!
✅Run cool (not cold) tap water over the burn for 10–20 minutes.
🚫Use ice, which can damage the tissue further, or ointments that trap heat.
🌭 2. The "Hot Dog" Hazard (Choking)
Choking is silent and fast. If a guest can’t cough, speak, or breathe:
✅Stand behind them.
✅Perform abdominal thrusts (The Heimlich Maneuver) until the object is forced out or they become unresponsive.
✅Know your CPR: If they collapse, call 911 and start compressions immediately.
At Upbeat CPR, we want your holiday to be about memories, not mishaps. Our mobile First Aid and CPR classes are perfect for neighborhood groups looking to stay prepared all summer long.
Enjoy the long weekend, Houston! Stay safe, stay prepared, and stay Upbeat.
