Markets can move fast. Earlier this year, geopolitical tensions triggered a swift decline, only to be followed by one of the sharpest recoveries in recent memory, with the S&P 500 reclaiming all-time highs within weeks. It's a good reminder of how difficult it is to time the market, and how costly it can be to try.

Looking at the chart below, when you zoom out to a 20-year lens, a different story emerges. The gap between top and bottom decile large cap growth managers over that timeframe is significant. Patience and sound manager selection have historically been far more powerful than reacting to short-term noise and trying to time the market.
