Rock Microscopy, LLC is an independent company that provides scientific services on matters concerning the geology of oil and gas reservoir rocks. The services include mostly evaluation and interpretation of data from laboratory measurements. The company may also offer recommendations on rock sampling and laboratory measurement techniques. We focus on key challenges that require expert knowledge o
f the reservoir rock down to the microscopic level. The need for this level of detail continues to grow as complex unconventional reservoir rocks become common. Our three main objectives that focus on some of the key challenges are:
1) To assist reservoir rock lab service companies in developing and improving rock analysis procedures for unconventional reservoirs.
2) To assist Oil & Gas operators in interpreting and scaling lab data of unconventional rocks.
3) To work with the industry in developing new products, tools, procedures, and scientific knowledge for unconventional reservoirs. Our main expert, Patrick Gathogo, is an experienced reservoir petrologist with emphasis on unconventional reservoirs. He worked as the lead petrologist and global subject matter expert (SME) for one of the major Oil & Gas service companies. Patrick has studied to the microscopic level rocks of unconventional reservoirs worldwide. His published work includes a global study with at least 100,000 petrology samples and associated lab data of unconventional reservoirs together with classic US shales. Although we are an independent company, we still work closely with a network of independent experts on unconventional reservoirs. Their expertise includes reservoir geology, geochemistry, petrophysics, geomechanics, and geophysics.
