SCIENTISTS JUST DOCUMENTED SOMETHING THEY WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO SEE…
A group of ~200 chimpanzees in Uganda has split into two rival factions — and they’ve been hunting and killing each other for years.
Researchers had been studying this exact group for 30+ years before the violence started around 2015… giving them a rare, real-time look at how it unfolded.
What shocked them most:
• The smaller group became more aggressive
• They organized coordinated patrols
• They targeted chimps at the edges of territory — one by one
So far:
• 7 adults killed
• 17 infants killed
• 14 missing
Scientists say chimp communities only split like this once every ~500 years.
And the takeaway is what’s unsettling…
Even without politics, religion, or race —
they still formed sides… and went to war.
