If you've tried to register a project this week, you may have noticed that TABS looks a little different. I wish that I had more information to share, but RAS are learning at the same time as all of you.

Here's what I do know:
- A screenshot of the Central Appraisal District (CAD) record must be uploaded to every project. The Owner info in TABS must match the CAD record.
- If the CAD account is wrong, the Owner must provide the Deed.
- Owners that are an LLC, an LP, or an LLP will need to upload the new Limited Liability Ownership form along with the Articles of Formation or Secretary of State filing record. TABS requires this person's contact info to go in the Owner Agent section.
- Anyone at the company named on the Limited Liability Ownership form can act on behalf of the Owner
- The Owner Agent Designation form is now to only be used if the Owner wants to designate an agent outside of their company (designer, tenant, property manager, etc).

I'm including some links and screenshots that may be helpful.https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/ab/info/tabs-updates-2025.pdf

Hi there, and welcome!

I’m so glad you’re here and interested in learning more about Texas Accessibility Group (TAG). I’m Meghan Simecek, and I founded TAG in 2017 after nearly a decade working as a commercial interior designer. Along the way, I discovered a deep passion for accessibility—understanding how spaces impact people of all abilities—and became a Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) in 2015.

What makes TAG different? We focus (almost!) exclusively on the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) and proudly pursue projects in the state of Texas. That local focus allows our clients to have more direct access to the RAS and ensures we stay closely connected to the Standards and the people we serve.

My path to accessibility consulting wasn’t a straight one. Believe it or not, I originally went to the University of Texas to become a math teacher. But after realizing the high school classroom wasn’t quite the right fit, my (now) husband encouraged me to combine my love of fashion with my love of numbers—and that’s how I found interior design. I transferred to Texas Tech University and earned my Bachelor of Interior Design (BID), and it wasn’t long before I discovered how drawn I was to designing for people with differing abilities. I’ve been chasing that “why” and “who” behind the Texas Accessibility Standards ever since.

Outside of work, I stay active in the commercial real estate and accessibility communities through professional organizations like Accessibility Professionals Association (APA), PWI, CREMM, AIA, IIDA, and ASID. And when I’m off the clock, you’ll probably find me at my sewing machine, at a women’s soccer game, or at the gym training for my next bodybuilding competition.

Thanks again for stopping by!

New year, same soapbox. When a manufacturer calls something "ADA" or "ADA compliant" or puts the International Symbol of Accessibility on their cut sheet... don't believe them.

I don't know why this happens, and I can't tell you the number of times I'm at an inspection and the tenant is baffled when I tell them a product is in violation. But I can tell you that the cut sheet saying it's compliant means nothing to your Registered Accessibility Specialist.

CREMM Hard hat tour of East Blocks was a really great event. I'm proud to be on the team for this exciting redevelopment. And how cool is that model?!?!!

I've been writing up AEDs on almost every project lately, for being a protruding object and/or for being out of the reach range. I'm a big fan of this solution at UH.
