As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, one Houston landmark is receiving national recognition.
The Astrodome has been featured in TIME as one of just 25 buildings across the country that embodies America's story and future. Recognized for its architectural innovation and enduring cultural significance, the Astrodome continues to stand as one of Houston's most iconic landmarks.
The feature also highlights the opportunity to preserve and thoughtfully reimagine the Astrodome for future generations, a vision Preservation Houston proudly supports in collaboration with the Astrodome Conservancy.

We absolutely loved hearing Samantha & Braden’s story!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Pier & Beam Happy Hour at By The Wayside this month, where we had the opportunity to hear firsthand how two Houstonians transformed a longtime neighborhood bar into one of the Second Ward’s newest gathering places.
After purchasing the building in 2023, Samantha and Braden Navarre spent nearly two years restoring and reimagining the space with a vision of creating a place that inspires people, artists, musicians, and meaningful connections.
Today, By the Wayside reflects that vision — a welcoming neighborhood spot rooted in community and proud to call Houston’s home.
A huge thank you to Samantha and Braden for welcoming us into your beautiful space and sharing your story with our Pier & Beam members.
If you haven’t visited By the Wayside yet, we highly recommend stopping by this fun gem, you’ll quickly see why we fell in love with this project.

Our winners series continues! We’re proud to recognize the Houston Zoo for the restoration of its Reflection Pool and Colonnades (1950).
A beloved entryway for generations of visitors, this project carefully rehabilitated the historic space to restore its original character while addressing decades of wear. Non-historic finishes were removed, concrete and limestone elements repaired, and drainage and lighting upgraded — all while preserving the colonnades’ understated modernist design and their role as a welcoming civic space.
The result is a thoughtful restoration that honors both the history and the experience of arriving at one of Houston’s most cherished destinations.
Fun Fact: The Reflection Pool was created in the late 1940s by combining three smaller pools into one unified basin, forming the iconic promenade visitors see today.
