WARNING: FLASHING LIGHTS!

I made a Zoetrope! A Zoetrope is basically an old timey toy from long ago that gives the illusion of motion, I just made an electronic version. By blinking the light rapidly in a dark room you can hide the structure moving and you just see an animation. The darker the room the better this works and it still works in person but it works better through a camera. The animation is of a cheetah running.

The light is too bright, and I can't get the cheetah to look like it's staying in the middle, but I'm still happy with this!

The electronics was an Arduino Uno, a 6V DC motor and a 10mm led.

The frames of the cheetah running was 3D printed using Transparent PLA at the base and Black PLA for the silhouette of the cheetah. The structure of the Zoetrope is just Silver PLA designed in FreeCAD.

I can upload the STL files if anyone cares enough, just let me know.

The code is just rapidly blinking an LED and running a DC motor full speed. I can upload it to github but there's really nothing more than that.

I figured out a way to 3d print pictures! It's just a cool little idea I've been working on for the past 4 days that I finally got down. It's a milestone in a much bigger project idea I have but I still thought it was cool and worth sharing!

I made this video because it was fun to do and I had the freetime. I'm not a video editor, I'm a programmer, so please have mercy on the quality of the video.

Completely custom chessboard designed and printed by me! I only designed and printed the board, the chess pieces are not my design

Results:

Letters and Numbers:
1 hour and 14 minutes
8 g of filament

Connectors:
5 hours and 32 minutes
27 g of filament

Board sections:
58 hours and 44 minutes
472 g of filament

Board tiles:
32 hours and 17 minutes
240 g of filament

Total:
97 hours and 47 minutes of print time
747 g of filament

Was it worth it?
Financially, kinda
Spiritually, hell yes!

Ignore the bad quality of the print, I had some settings messed up

I figured out how to make a 3D ambigram last night! I got excited to show people and the first thing my buddy tells me is there's a tool that does it for you and I didn't have to do it myself.

Oh well, it still looks cool

Making a Chess Board that I can 3D print. I'd say it's going well so far.
