***OBTAINING FLOOD INSURANCE***

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey here in Houston, my office and myself have been getting lots of calls about flood insurance. As many of you have found out by now, NO homeowners insurance will cover flood/rising water. Flood insurance is only offered through FEMA under National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and we can help you submit an application and set one up. If your house is located in a "preferred" zone, which they will determine, the max coverage is $250K for dwelling and $100K for personal contents such as appliances, furniture, electronics, clothing, etc. The annual premium is $450 for primary residence and for investment homes add $250. If it's in a standard zone, it will be higher but you can adjust your coverage. Please keep in mind there is a standard 30 day waiting period for all applications to take effect. For the few customers who had flood coverage that contacted me immediately after flood waters reached their homes, we were able to help file their claims right away.
