Sometimes the experiences that shape our passion for this work happen long before we ever step into it.

Before joining Demand Disruption, Maggie spent time running a small community library in a coastal town on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, serving local Maya children and their families. What began as a small space filled with books soon became something much bigger—a place where children discovered new worlds, families gathered, and community took root.

When a hurricane damaged the nearby classrooms, the library became a place of stability. Children still showed up eager to read, laugh, and learn. Families leaned into community. Even after disruption, hope and resilience continued to grow.

That experience left a lasting impression on Maggie. It showed her how powerful it is when communities come together to protect opportunity, preserve culture, and create safe spaces for the next generation.

At Demand Disruption, that same belief drives our work every day. Prevention starts with community—when people invest in education, connection, and the wellbeing of those around them, it creates a ripple effect that protects lives and disrupts exploitation before it begins.
