Here are the credit requirements for some of the most popular mortgage types:
Conventional mortgage: A minimum credit score of 620 is typically required for a conventional mortgage. However, some lenders may approve borrowers with lower credit scores if they have a strong down payment or other compensating factors.
FHA loan: A minimum credit score of 580 is required for an FHA loan with a 3.5% down payment. Borrowers with credit scores between 500 and 579 may be eligible for an FHA loan with a 10% down payment.
VA loan: There is no minimum credit score requirement for a VA loan. However, borrowers must meet other eligibility requirements, such as having served in the military.
USDA loan: A minimum credit score of 640 is required for a direct USDA loan. Borrowers with credit scores between 640 and 679 may be eligible for a guaranteed USDA loan.
It is important to note that these are just the minimum credit requirements. Lenders may have other requirements, such as a minimum debt-to-income ratio or a minimum amount of time in your current job. It is always a good idea to talk to a lender to get an accurate idea of your eligibility for a mortgage.
