30 minutes north of Austin, in Leander, the citizens of the Sandy Creek community didn't see emergency services until 12 hours after the catastrophic floods. More than 5 days later, they saw the first crisis cleanup crew. Mobile homes and RVs filled with elderly people and families washed away from the community, and there are still tons of trash, pieces of houses, people, animals, cars, boats, you name it; awaiting clean up. The Austin Disaster Relief may be a known homophobic organization, but it is one of the only crisis response teams on scene. If you are in Austin or nearby, consider signing up for a shift.
There are multiple volunteer positions open: from debris removal to shuttle drivers, lunch servers and welcome committees. More info on my link in bio
