Diabetic retinopathy affects one in three people with diabetes worldwide. Left untreated, it can lead to irreversible vision loss.

July is Healthy Vision Month--a perfect opportunity to prioritize eye health with your patient population, especially those with diabetes. Eye exams for patients with diabetes is a Medicare Stars measure, and some health plans even incentivize their members to get this screening done as well.

To close this gap in your practice, refer patients with diabetes to an ophthalmologist or optometrist for a dilated or retinal exam. Be sure to refer to eye specialists who appropriately code the visit, document/code the presence or absence of the condition, and provide you with a written report.

Working together, you can ensure your patients' eyes and vision are protected from this devastating complication of diabetes.

We are just coming off an incredibly productive weekend in Galveston connecting with the doctors of Renaissance Physicians, an IPA serving patients in the greater Houston area.

CareAllies is grateful and proud to help support these types of client retreats, which allow everyone in attendance to have collaborative discussions about how to continue to advance the principles of value-based care by improving access, quality, utilization, and ultimately, patient outcomes. This is especially timely as outcome-driven measures are becoming increasingly important.

Thank you to all presenters, including physician speakers and CareAllies leadership, for your time and expertise!
