I haven't introduced myself here for a while, so I thought I'd do that again. A big warm hello to all of you! My name is Lauren Price, and I'm part of the team at Academic Independence Coaching; you may know me as the originator of the "Strain your brain to retain" quote. ;)
When I was 24, I fell in love with education after finding myself helping out with a study skills class while interviewing for marketing jobs. Realizing soon after, marketing and public relations weren't for me, and I needed to go back to school and learn everything I could about my new passion for educating students and teaching them how to learn and study. In 2013 we decided to go for it, and Academic Independence was born. 6 years later, we've taken the tools we've discovered and prepared a way to equip teachers all over with our tried and true, immediately applicable brain-friendly and self-regulated learning approach towards teaching.
I spend most of my days working with students or my team on new ways to support both students and teachers. I love every minute of it. For me, what I do is so much more than just a job, it's something I picture myself doing for years to come because it allows me to turn on the light bulb in so many students and help teachers do the same for theirs.
I'm also a mom of two boys and our dog, Finn. I love to take him for walks. You can find me playing a serious game of Spades with my boys and husband in my free time, something we have taken up since the pandemic, or doing a family competition bake-offs with my brother and his family.
I'd love to get to know you a little better; comment below and say hello by telling me your favorite study method or something you have learned lately that blew your mind. I love it when my mind is blown by something. For me, most recently, after reading Benedict Carey's, How We Learn, I learned that studying in multiple locations is better than studying in the same place. Wow!
