Covenant Church Houston

Covenant donates all cash offerings to an affiliated mission organization on the First Sunday of each month. Following an inspiring adult education presentation last Sunday by Elia Chino, on July 5 our collection will support FLAS (Fundación Latinoamericana De Acción Social). FLAS was started by Elia in 1994 to address the particular needs of the Latino LGBTQIA+ community. At the time the primary focus was on community education and advocacy during the HIV/AIDS crisis, and this remains an issue 32 years later as many of the medical and pharmaceutical advances still elude a community without adequate health care and medical insurance. Much of the grant money that they have relied upon over the last 32 years is no longer available.

On July 5 we will also collect our monthly First Sunday Food Offering for the Wesley Center’s Food Pantry. Food insecurity greatly increases in the summer months, especially for children. In the summer, thousands of children in Houston will lose access to school meals. We welcome all non-perishable food items. Every donation will make a difference, although we are most in need of peanut butter, canned protein (such as tuna, chicken, and salmon), and canned soups.
