PRH began in 1993 as a result of discussions among African-American artists who wanted to establish a positive, creative presence in their own community. Artist and community activist Rick Lowe spearheaded the pursuit of this vision when he discovered the abandoned 1 1/2 block site of twenty-two shotgun-style houses in Houston’s Third Ward. Summer is almost here, and you know what that means.. The Teens are out of school and ready to take control!

Applications for Teens in CTRL are now open.

In June 2026, Project Row Houses’ Teens in CTRL Summer Program will accept 8 local high school students in grades 9-12, for an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of digital media and storytelling within our Bloomberg Content Creation Lab located in the Historic Neighborhood of Houston’s Third Ward. This camp is all about empowering teens to capture the stories of local artists, and community members in creative and meaningful ways. Eligible applicants must submit a short video introducing themselves and why they are interested in joining this program before Monday, June 14, 2026, to be considered for this opportunity. The program will take place on every Thursday and Saturday in July 2025, beginning on Thursday, July 9th and culminating with a showcase on Saturday, August 1st.

PRH is currently seeking mentors in the field of photography and filmmaking. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in being a guest instructor.

We feel seen! Project Row Houses shares deep appreciation to the Ruth Foundation for the Arts for the honor of being included in the 2025–2028 Core Grant program.

Project Row Houses feels a deep kinship to the nearly 200 other institutions who share this honor with us, and to Ruth Foundation for the Arts. We all share a commitment to community and conversation that creates space for artists to step up and branch out.

Two of our team members had the opportunity to visit Milwaukee for the opening and first unboxing for “Original Order Order Original: The Art and Archives of Bettina,” and they have not stopped talking about the experience, particularly the people they met.

Thank you, Ruth Arts, for welcoming us into your orbit and being part of our community of practice. Onward together!

A group of Arnold Ventures staffers took a break from their All Teams Summit to visit Project Row Houses, tour Round 60: Rooted in Perception, and create their own collages to explore narrative storytelling through images. We appreciate the energy they brough and stories they shared.
