Gas furnaces produce combustion exhaust including carbon monoxide, and in a sealed spray-foamed attic there is no air exchange to safely carry those gases away.

The fix is a direct-vent two-pipe system where one pipe pulls outside air in for combustion and a second pipe exhausts flue gases directly to the exterior, so the furnace never interacts with the attic air at all.
