In a first for the city of St. Louis, the St. Louis Fire Department has made a historic move and promoted five Black women to the rank of Captain.

Licole McKinney, Jessica Jackson, Pamela Saunders-Isaac, Elizabeth McCormic and Cicely Tucker are the new captains.

McKinney said she was homeless and living in her car with her 2-year-old when she first went to EMT school.

Each of the women have an interesting story as to how they initially became fire fighters.
