For my fellow young men…. the day you find out your babe is pregnant, and it’s your first baby… I want you to do something different.
If possible, make space to accompany your wife to antenatal visits, doctor’s appointments, and anything related to her health and the baby’s. Learn about the stages of fetus development. Watch videos to know what might be going on inside her body.
Be present. You guys are in this together. I followed my wife to 99% of antenatal appointments.
The ultrasound. The gestational diabetes test. The first kicks. The genetic testing. Gender testing. Delivery scheduling. Be there!
Know which stage you guys are in. The gestational week.
Bottom line is… be as present as much as you possibly can.
The journey will help you be a better advocate and resource when your wife is in medical distress. You can easily tell which tests had been done, know who her Ob/Gyn is and basic things like that.
Scientists figured out that when a man is actively involved, it makes the pregnancy journey less troubling for the woman.
Good luck.
Before Moses was placed in a basket 🧺 on a river, history documented someone else had the same exact story.
Sargon the Great.
The Legend of Sargon of Akkad (c. 2300 BCE) says:
“My mother set me in a basket of rushes, sealed my lid with bitumen. She cast me into the river. The river bore me to Akki, the drawer of water, who took me as his son and raised me.”
That boy grew up to conquer Mesopotamia and found the Akkadian Empire — the world's first empire.
Centuries later, we read in Exodus 2 that Moses was placed in a basket sealed with tar, set on the Nile, and raised in Pharaoh's palace.
Did the write of Exodus copy from the Legend of Sargon? Or the two were coincidence?
If you consider that the story of Moses, in its modern form, was written when Israelites were in Babylon (around 6th BCE) and were exposed Mesopotamian literature… you kind of have more questions to ask.
