Letβs Celebrate Black History Month from February 1- February 29
Black History Month honors the achievements, triumphs and contributions of Black and African Americans to U.S. history and culture.
We recognize and reflect on influential Black and African American voices, past and present, that have shaped our society and culture.
The percentage of Black Nurses is currently 11.4% of the total nurse population, and have averaged a 1% increase over the last decade!
So why is this important? I am glad you asked π
Throughout history and still, to this day, the overall care provided to Black patients is improved when treated by a Black nurse, as there is a more personal understanding of the patient's history and the effects of the intersection between race and healthcare.
Although the obstacles we face, underrepresentation, racism, insufficient support for career advancement, and whatever else the day brings, we are NEEDED and we MATTER!
This one is for ALL the Melanin Nurses who look like me! We are good enough, have always been good enough, and always striving to be better! Black Nurses Matter Babyπ«Άπ½
