Meet the SYP Operations Team

From coordinating check-in and helping students navigate campus to keeping programs running smoothly behind the scenes, our Logistics Coordinators and Lead Operations Counselors help make SYP happen every single day.

This year’s operations team includes two Michigan Tech students, a former SYP counselor and Michigan Tech alum, and a University of Michigan alum. Together, Serenity, Vivi, Tracy, and Josh bring experience spanning logistics, management, psychology, and natural resources. All helping create an incredible summer experience for SYP students and families.

Do you know a student still looking for a meaningful and memorable summer experience? Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs (SYP) (mtu.edu/syp) could be a great fit.

We're excited to share a new scholarship opportunity open to Michigan students currently in Grades 6-11. The MEDC Scholarship will cover the full cost of tuition, including transportation on the private, chaperoned SYP charter bus.

SYP offers students the opportunity to spend a week on campus exploring subjects that match their interests—whether that’s engineering, business, computing, or beyond. Through hands-on projects and interactive sessions, students gain practical experience while building confidence and independence.

In addition to academics, students connect with peers from across the country (and around the world), all while getting a preview of college life in a supportive, structured environment with welcoming staff.

From new friendships to discovering future interests, SYP is designed to help students grow, explore, and have fun along the way.

The MEDC Scholarship is applicable towards the following courses:
- AI Coding: Idea to Impact - Grades 9-11
- Introduction to Robotic Engineering - Grades 6-8
- Mechanical Engineering: Design the Future (June 14-19 Session Only) - Grades 6-8
- Mechatronics: Build & Program a Functional Robot - Grades 9-11
- What is Materials Science? (June 14-19 Session Only) - Grades 9-11
- Autonomous Robotics: Computer Vision & Navigation - Grades 9-11
- Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) - Grades 9-11
- Women in Engineering (WIE) - Grades 9-11

Interested students can apply at bit.ly/sypscholars and awards will be made on a rolling basis.
