Three Plus

As a hot contributor of Hawaiian Reggae music, Three Plus has been and still currently one of Hawaii's very own favorite bands. Since 1999, Three Plus took Hawaiian Islands by its reigns and rode its wave through the hearts of every 80s & 90s babies and through today's Gen Z. Three Plus has continued to spin in high rotation with every local radio stations in Hawaii, Japan, and U.K and a permanent

fixture on streaming platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, and Pandora. They are a highly dynamic group with sounds of R&B and Hip Hop, fused with the idyllic rootsy reggae blend. During their tenure, Three Plus had a brief hiatus to the music scene to focus on their personal family lives. As the years progressed, Three Plus recognized their mainstream stay with today's current events and eventually remerged as the crowd favorite. They have been featured at venues such as the Island Reggae Fest at Santa Clara, featuring UB40, selling out concerts at the Tom Moffat Waikiki Shell Amphitheater in Honolulu, and kicked off the inaugural HoloHolo Festival at the Frost Amphitheater, Stanford, CA. Three Plus are dubbed the "Legends" at 'Revive the Live' Concerts hosted by Hawaii's Finest Clothing and has been the surprise celebrity band at the Red Bull Party Wave at Hilton Hawaiian Village Great Lawn. However, Three Plus garnered historical recognition as the opening act for Janet Jackson's - 'All For You' 2002 Tour, live on HBO, at the infamous Hawaii's Aloha Stadium. Three Plus has been nationally acclaimed on the National Billboard Charts with , "Don't Have Two Think Twice", released in 1999 on their first recorded album "Honey Baby". They followed up with other favorites with their album namesake, "Honey Baby" and "Two Person Party" affirming their popularity till present day meta platforms Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Throughout their two-decade career span, Three Plus has made various touring appearances with icons such as Third World, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Inner Circle, Messenjah, and the ever legendary Morgan Heritage Band. Their performances has been styled with songs from Steel Pulse, "Steppin Out!" and "Undercover Lover" from their 2003 Na Hoku HanoHano award winning "Reggae Album of the Year" - "3+4U". As noted by their drummer and former manager Shawn Pimental, Three Plus was there at the right place and at the right time. Three Plus has represented their own catchy hooks and memorable musical production. They add their own ingenuity and inclusivity in their multi-faceted development. Island Reggae Music has been best represented by the following men of Three Plus to make a name outside of the Hawaiian islands. Soulful melodies are presented at large by front man/ lead singer, Tanoa Kapana, and sic ukulele hooks and crowd hypeman, Marcus Malepeai. The group also consists of an impressive back line with reggae rhythm extraordinaire /music collaborator/ keyboard player Kahi Fernandez, bass player Cary Mashiba, musical director/drummer Shawn Pimental, and rounding with the legendary Sani Apuakehau on guitar. Three Plus has always assured to enhance an exciting, high energy performance and continue to certify their mark in musical history.

Where do I start, so many memories of just hanging out on the Big Island Barbecuing at Danny’s house in Waimea when you showed Marcus and I your Hawaiian salt and oyster sauce marinade for steaks. Singing at your daughter’s first Birthday party at Cronies in Hilo. Watching you at Studio Kahala when we were recording Stepping Out for Mana’o’s album and being in awe cause you made it look so effortless in the studio. To Marcus and I sharing with you some food from Jack in the box after one of our shows we did together at the Show Box in Seattle! Truly an icon, mentor, inspiration and great man! Your first CD “Evolution” was ahead of its time and we didn’t even know or realize what great music was coming from you for us to enjoy for generations. I remember like it was yesterday when we got to open up for you at the MACC in Maui for your “Gratitude” CD release tour. It was one of the highlights of my music career! I love you Fiji and will miss you! Till we meet again. Give Marcus a hug for me!

We are deeply thankful to our extended Ohana and friends for honoring the life of our dear brother, Marcus Malepeai. Your presence made the day truly unforgettable for the Malepeai family. Marcus left a remarkable legacy, including his three sons, Marcus Jr., Michael, and Matthew. We have had the privilege of watching them grow into admirable individuals, each establishing their own families. Marcus’ only grandson, Micah, will undoubtedly hear countless stories about how Marcus touched the lives of everyone he met. Our hearts are with our dear sister Iwalani, and we are committed to ensuring that Marcus’ musical legacy lives on as one of Hawaii’s greatest of all time.

The bond that brought Three Plus together was nothing short of serendipitous, united by our passion for creating beautiful music and leaving a lasting imprint on current and future generations. We indeed became a blended family.

As we move forward, Marcus’ influence will continue to be felt in our performances and our fans’ hearts. Not a day passes without us thinking of Marcus and the dreams we had envisioned together. He was a tremendous source of inspiration to us, and we send our heartfelt love to his family. We pray that Marcus watches over us today, tomorrow, and in the coming days.
