I have found that abiding in the Lord is the number one spiritual practice that the enemy and my flesh have battled against the most.
The moment we begin to take our eyes off of Him, we start to build affection for something or someone else who can not protect or satisfy us like He can. As someone who struggled with co-dependent tendencies, I know this all too well. My flesh has a proclivity to look at relationships as a source of worth and value. Relationships aren’t ba, but I have made them my idol time and time again.
“Good” things can become idols and distractions that remove our affections from Him.

"Purity seemed impossible for me, and it wasn’t even my fault! I didn't ask for these feelings.
“God didn’t make you that way. It’s a choice.”
That was such a common response throughout my life, and it was the most hurtful. I really wanted someone to understand me, but no one around me could relate. So, I did what most people do when they feel hopeless – I gave in. It was either give in or die.
I don’t know why it took a little over three decades to finally meet Jesus for myself. The word of God tells us that the Spirit brings life (2 Corinthians 3:6) and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). That was the case when the Word came alive to me.
My posture changed.
The religious men around Jesus judged Him for allowing the woman with the alabaster jar to anoint him and wash his feet with her tears and hair. They called her a sinful woman, and many have assumed her role as a pr******te all these years, though the word never makes that clear.
But what’s clear is Jesus saying, “I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.” (Matthew 26:11)
This is the posture we must all come to if purity is to ever manifest in our life. It starts at His feet.
