Gasoline Is a LOT Cheaper in the U.S. Than Overseas. Here's Why.

Even as the war in Iran has pushed up U.S. gasoline prices, American drivers are still paying dramatically less than people around the world.

Here’s why America wins at the pump:

• We produce more oil than any nation on Earth — more than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined. That's almost three times as much oil as we produced in the fake "Peak Oil" days of the 2000s.

That makes us way more insulated from global supply shocks than almost anywhere else.

• Our gas taxes are tiny compared to most foreign countries. Only about 60 cents of what we pay is federal and state taxes.

Compare that to Germany: $8.75 a gallon, with more than half of it taxes (VAT + excise duties). Across most of Europe, taxes make up 50–60% of the price at the pump. That's on TOP of the real cost.

Americans drive an average of 13,000 miles a year. We feel every penny at the pump more than most nations. Yet thanks to American energy strength and low taxes, we enjoy a massive advantage most of the world can only envy.

How could we go even lower? Build more refineries. America hasn't built a new one since the 1970s. But Trump is making new construction possible again — which will skyrocket supply and cut costs.
