Queen Kapiolani was Hawaii's Queen from 1874 to 1891 and was married to King Kalakaua. She was a woman who was mostly known for her philanthropy and was deeply committed to the health, education, and well-being of the Hawaiian people.
“Indeed our time is limited upon this sacred land. I pray that our people may remember me not so much as their aliʻi ʻai moku (queen or high chiefess) but as their dedicated sister and true friend for aloha (love) is more profound than any title or position one may be elevated to…Strive for the highest in all matters you undertake and always with humility and with the intention of exalting our country…” - Queen Kapiʻolani
