Expensive teas

Semi-fermented green oolong is handmade in India. To ensure full saturation with useful substances, it is collected only on the full moon. It was this variety that was chosen to create the most expensive bagged tea in the world - PG Tips, each bag of which, priced at $15,000, is adorned with diamonds.

Before harvesting the Gyokuro variety, tea bushes are shaded for two weeks, during which the level of amino acids in the leaves rises, giving them a bright aroma and sweetness. To preserve it, the leaves are not cut, but they try to keep intact.

At private auctions, the price of 1 kilogram rarely reaches $15. But sometimes tea from the Makaibari gardens gets on sale, and then the prices skyrocket!

The yellowish leaves of this variety of tea, which grows in Singapore, are covered with edible gold.

Named after Guan Yin, the iron goddess of mercy, this tea is full of legends. If you go into petty details, then this is a mixture of partially fermented green and black tea leaves. It is distinguished by a bright nutty taste and the fact that it retains it for up to 7 times of brewing.

Legends say that once this tea cured a princess of the Ming Dynasty from a serious illness, and since then the healing power of Da-Hong Pao has been considered undeniable. But in fact, a large component of its price is a rarity. The last tea harvest from the last four Da-Hong Pao tea bushes was in 2005, and there is no next one in sight.
