Landowners and communities within 33 Central Texas counties can apply for reimbursement for mechanical fuel reduction practices that can reduce the risk of home damage or loss to wildfire through the Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant.

Applications for the fall 2025 Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant are now open and will close Sept. 12.

Eligible applicants can receive up to $750/acre for hand-cutting treatment, $2,000/acre for mulching treatment or $1,500/acre for a combination of hand-cutting and mulching treatments.

A virtual workshop will be held at noon on August 12 for landowners and municipalities interested in applying. The workshop will cover the application process, creating a property map with boundaries, locating a contractor and more.

This was a fun project, watching as properties come back to life is the best part of the job. We cleared and removed the old fence line, and grubbed/cleared some other overgrown areas. This property is now ready for future generations to explore and enjoy it’s amazing history.
