Week 3 Recap: “Day 15 — About three weeks before Liam’s graduation, he was contacted by a supervisor/behavior consultant from the Valley Program, the program he attended for ten years, up through 8th grade. 👨‍🎓

“He was asked if he would like to be the ‘alumni guest speaker’ at their pre-school graduation. 🎓

“While life was so hectic, and he would have to leave right after his ‘senior breakfast’ and head back quickly to finish graduation rehearsal, Liam couldn’t pass up the opportunity to speak at the school that helped him get where he is today. 🎤

“Liam had spoken in front of groups before, so thankfully, he was only mildly nervous. What a cool full-circle moment to see Liam address the pre-school parents! 🫂

“They were having some audio issues, causing Liam to go on earlier than expected. 🎚️

“He was a bit confused...the kids were a bit confused...there was even a student crawling on the floor in front of him and calling out to mom and dad...but Liam just took a deep breath and kept on going! 😮‍💨

“It was so nice to exist in that space again and to see familiar faces as some of the teachers, aides, and staff looked on […] 🤗

“No matter how far he’s come, no matter how far he goes, Liam will never forget where he came from and will always love and appreciate the program that gave him wings so he could learn to fly!” 📣

Week 2 Recap: “Day 13 — Liam had his autism diagnosis well before he attended school, so that very first day of pre-school was a shock to the system. He cried as he entered a new and unfamiliar place…and I cried knowing that this was the first day of FIFTEEN years of school! 🥲

That day, I had no idea how challenging those years would be. How many schools he would go to. How many teachers and aides he would have. How many IEP meetings I would attend. How many times I would hold my breath wondering how hard I would have to fight to keep him in his program. How many times I would wonder if I was making all of the right decisions. […] 📚

The days were definitely long but the years were fast and suddenly he’s wearing a cap and gown. 👨‍🎓

As we watched Liam walk in the BLAZING heat to receive his diploma, I cried once again for our incredible son who graduated Summa Cum Laude. Our son who defied all odds and spoke when we weren’t sure he could. The shy, frustrated kid that year by year slowly came out of his shell. ☀️

Liam accomplished so much and gained more confidence than we ever could have imagined. 🥹

The weather was brutal but Liam did it. He did it!! While that chapter ended, he was ready to face a new adventure. I had no doubt that he would carry with him all he learned and experienced in those 15 years, and hold his head up high as he entered college in the fall!” 🎓
