Wow! Huge fountains yesterday and they closed Hwy 11 between mm 24 and 40 due to heavy tephra fall. Both north and south vents were above 1000 feet high and producing voluminous tephra spreading to the north. Golf course housing and highway 11 are being hit with tephra up to 5 inches. Plume is over 25,000 feet asl and spreading north. We were headed that way when they turned us back and had Pele's hair all over our car and porch after powerwashing the day before.
