Sig Zane Designs
The elements of nature shape my character. The archaic chants of our elders guide the traditions and practices. The rhythm of the universe dictates the flow of time. The honoring and respect of the ancestors that stand at the back of me directs the action. I am a steward of their knowledge. My art is a tangible visual form of their story.

KALAUKOA
I dream of the kīpuka on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Towering koa trees with enormous trunks thrive in the pristine environment. The stillness and calm is comforting.
The koa tree is the giant of the forest, a symbol of strength. We make lei of its crescent-shaped petioles and place it on our kuahu hula. Kinolau of Kū, koa is one of nine plants that our traditions allow placement on the kuahu.
Koa is the father of the forest as it protects and nurtures its understory. The trees attract the moisture from the atmosphere and with its crescent shapes, directs the condensation to the forest community below. Kalaukoa, the-koa-leaf, is an important plant in a healthy forest.

LEHUANANI
This design was done for Kumu Hula Rae Fonseca and his Hālau Hula o Kahikilaulani. He wanted a design for his male dancers who were going to perform a hula about the island of Hawai'i. This island flower originally was done for their hālau in colors of the aliʻi, red and yellow.
Lehuanani in Roasted Pecan & Espresso.
