She was raised in urban Jersey City amidst the perils of poverty and addiction. At 9 years old, her mother succumb to a he**in addition at the age of 26. Ultimately, her father also died from a he**in addiction as well. As an only child, LaTia grew traumatized forced to ‘thrive’ in an environment inundated by drugs, violence, chaos and dysfunction. Her journey to success was long fought and nearly
impossible. LaTia made many mistakes attempting to find her way, but she never gave up on herself. At 13-years old, LaTia had her first child. Then, a series
of failed relationships left her battered, abused and emotionally
damaged. Her days were uncertain and her future looked grim. However, LaTia was determined to succeed, shouldering her
Burdens in Her Backpack, a mantra that would later become the title of her best selling memoir. Although LaTia was always supported and encouraged by both of her grandmother’s Berdie and Catherine, she eventually would hit rock
bottom before realizing her true worth. While LaTia soldiered her journey, she acquired life experiences and wisdom beyond her years. Her resilience, persistence and determination allowed her to beat the odds overcoming life’s most egregious adversities. LaTia graduated from Lincoln High School as a teenage parent. She was also a first generation college graduate, when she went on to complete her Associates Degree from Hudson County Community College with honors. Then, LaTia continued her education at Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University) having earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. However, she wasn’t finished at that point. After college, LaTia began to understand her purpose. She understood that she was to become an advocate, activist, a catalyst for women’s empowerment and a voice for marginalized groups. Therefore, LaTia continued her education and earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, while continuing to love and study the arts. During her 20 year career, LaTia served as an executive administrator multiple leading non-profit agencies in New Jersey. In 2010, with her husband, LaTia founded Lions Vision Productins, LLC, a media production & entertainment company. At the same time, she also founded the Worthy Women’s UPward Institute, providing women’s entrepreneurial and personal development, as well as, servicing her three on-going philanthropic endeavors. LaTia’s story is living proof that we all have purpose and
our lives are part of a greater plan than our own. She is the epitome of THE Adversity Expert™. Today, LaTia is married and lives in New Jersey. She is a published author, speaker, writer, director, producer and entrepreneur. In 2020, her company Lions Vision Productions opened its first film studio in Hillside, New Jersey.
