YW Staff and Poder Summer Campers attended the 2nd Annual Civic Health Summit yesterday hosted by NC Campus Engagement at Elon University. We were surrounded by lots of incredible civic superhero’s.

We spent time reflecting on data from the 2024 Civic Health Index and imagining ways to help North Carolina move some key indicators forward.

Want to join us as a part of the NC Civic Action League!?

Stay tuned in the coming months for ways you can join this historic mission.💥 🦸‍♀️

(And, just for fun, what’s your super hero name?)🤭

Hands up if you have taken a class in our Teaching Kitchen?

Let us know in the comments🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏽

In 2025, our team taught 70+ classes in our Teaching Kitchen, classes ranged from learning how to can, to buying food on a budget, to easy meal prep. Our team has been empowering the High Point community through food in amazing ways.

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home… we hope you feel the heartbeat of this kitchen as it ripples across homes across our community. 🧡 🥦 🥕 🏡

We love to support advocates of all kinds. In our community advocacy training, we teach about noticing what makes our souls come alive, and when we find that thing, that’s how we know what we truly care about.

This week we hosted Sheila Mikhail, an advocate using her story, and the thing that makes her soul come alive, to help other women throughout the state of North Carolina hopefully have more access to expanded, insurance covered breast cancer screenings.

Thanks to all who attended! When we work together, surely something good can come. 🧡

For more information about the specific legislation Sheila shared about, you can follow North Carolina Women’s Health Advocates at whanc.org, you can find information there about contacting your legislators about this issue.
