We all struggle with focus while studying, working, reading (even for fun), and note taking. For many, (like myself) music only distracts further. Well great, how are we supposed to focus? I'm excited to present the idea of ambient noises, which will be linked below. They are non melodic and repetitive so your brain doesn't focus on them, while at the same time they act as noise blockers, preventing you from being startled and unfocused by noises. Or if you're like me, when it's too quiet your brain just wanders. These ambient sounds create a space that cues your brain to focus-giving the opportunity for highly focused and efficient studying!

1. My Noise: https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php

My favorite thing about My Noise is that the creator tries to accommodate people with hearing loss as much as he can (see the calibration part of the site) I admit, this one is visually overwhelming but HIGHLY customizable and varied for all possible needs- including study focus, support in focusing with ADHD, relaxation, and sleep. Sounds feature changeable sliders for the different tone ranges so you can make it your own. Unfortunately due to copyright infringement, not all of the noises are available for free anymore, but many great ones still are- as you can see in the links below (play around with the sliders, it's fun). If you want to unlock all the sounds, you can donate as little as $1, however this website is still completely fulfilling and useful without a donation. Once you donate there are a couple added features, my favorite one being the ability to mix multiple sounds together (Like a windy thunderstorm, or monks chanting with African polyrythms).

2. Calmy Leon: https://calmyleon.com/

This is actually just a much more visually plain and simple version of My Noise. It also has much less customization options. However it is still an excellent tool that accomplishes the same thing as MyNoise. It is excellent or when you want to just quickly set up a sound, with minimal distractions (after a bit the text disappears and all you are left with are nice little images). I've also found it's simple interface is visually calming- perfect after a loooooong day of studying, or when I have a headache.

3. Purrli: https://purrli.com/

If you are a cat lover (as I am...I WILL be a crazy cat lady one day), this generator is perfect for you! Also made by the creator of MyNoise and Calmy Leon, this is also a visually simple, less distracting ambient noise generator. It's unique in that it focuses only on a cat purr sound. Absolutely adorable. It is also highly customizable- you can make a deep, slow, sleepy purr or a happy, quick, playful one (and anything in between). The purr works wonders on calming and focus. Be careful tough, it is so calming that I have gotten sleepy wile studying!

Background Noises • Ambient Sounds • Relaxing Music | myNoise ® Thanks to its sound quality and unique audio engineering, myNoise sets the standard among online background noise machines.
