When I was younger, my little brother and I came up with a word: SLUG. It was our take on looking amazing in whatever we were wearing, a new haircut, new shoes, whatever it was, if it looked good it was SLUG. We dreamed of starting a clothing company, the SLUG being our logo, and the acronym being more or less a joke. Timmy was tall and handsome, so he was Sexy and Lean. I love movies, so I quoted
the movie Zoolander a lot and Timmy said the UG in SLUG should be Unbelievably Good-looking, a quote from Derek Zoolander. As the years went on, and I chose restaurant management as a career, I realized that starting a clothing company may not happen for us, as he was attending pre med in Newark. On January 23rd, 2013 Timothy died of a heroine overdose. I knew that my life would never be the same, but I also knew that no matter what I did, my company and my future would hold remeberences of my best friend. Three years later, I decided I needed to jump at the opportunity to start my own business. My partner Maria lent us the capitol to get started, and we quickly got started in January of 2016. When I told her that we would call the business SLUG, at first she recoiled and said no way can we do that, we are going to be making food. She had a good point, but I told this story that I am now telling all of you. She fell in love with the name immediately and we haven't looked back. Now we embrace the SexyLean&UnbeleivablyGood-looking mantra as not just a name of the company, but as a way to live your life! We encourage everyone to try our products made with natural and fresh ingredients, in turn you join our family of SLUGs. After all, what is life without friends, family, and great food!
