Founded by Chris Kendrick in 2004 Against The Grain became an overnight local sensation in Southern California playing venues from large to small. In 1999 He worked the sound board for Oz Fest at the Red Rocks Amphitheater and knew this was his calling to make music of all genres. The band broke up in 2008 when Chris moved to the Ozark Mountains and Branson Missour. I decided to then start the ban
d back up with all new players. Brian Lenharth-Drums
Brian was born in St. Louis, MO and started drumming at the age of 18. He found his start to drumming listening to Phil Collins, whose drumming was both unique and amazing when he played with Genesis. Then he got the ability to see Rush, whose drummer was world renown drummer Neil Peart and was hooked. Throughout college Brian played with notable bands in Springfield, MO, Monumental Radio, Plainview, and did studio drumming for Ozark Sound Studios. Brian has a self taught drumming background and influences include Genesis, Rush, Dave Matthews Band, Yes, Bruce Hornsby, Terry Bozzio, and many other Classic and Progressive Rock influences. Brian plays Mapex drums, Pearl snares and pedals, Zildjian and Sabian cymbals and uses Neil Peart Signature Promark Sticks. Gary Derossett Keys
Gary got his first guitar that his mother bought from his girlfriends father when he was 14 back in Bryan, Ohio of course back then the Beatles were a main influence along with The Hollies. There were bands like The Buckinghams, Grass Roots. The Stones were never much on his list back in the day because harmony in songs is what caught his attention so when bands like The Eagles, Poco, and Loggins and Messina came around the caught his interest both because vocals and instrumentally there was a lot of harmony work in the music. He played around his area of Ohio until we moved to Kansas where He played in a number of garage bands and hit about every bar in Kansas just to see bands if you know a bar back in the seventies he was probably there at one time or another. Southern Rock came into play and his favorite band was Lynyrd Skynyrd along with an area band called Kansas. After meeting his wife he ended up for a time in Michigan which he still calls the greatest Rock and Roll state of the seventies the bars had great show venues and the bands were extremely talented. He played in this area for a couple of years and at one point would just go out on week ends and fill in as a guitar player for bands that had gigs but either there lead player was sick or just quit the band and there he’d would be. The music had begun to change did some jamming in the Kansas City area then closing it down for many years. Moved to the Branson area back in 2004 around 2007 began jamming again with people but nothing really happening then in 2014 I answered and add for the band Against the Grain playing keys and back up guitar and so the story goes and here I am having a great time with a great band.
