Organizations, partners, and leaders across Pennsylvania are invited to sponsor PRO‑A’s 9th Annual Leadership Event on November 12, 2026, helping drive the next chapter of recovery leadership in our state.

This year’s theme, Recovery in a High Potency World, reflects the urgent need for adaptive, community‑driven strategies as high‑potency substances and complex drug combinations reshape the recovery landscape.

Dr. Judith E. Grisel—internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the biological and experiential roots of addiction—will be the Keynote Speaker for PRO-A's 9th Annual Leadership Dinner!

Dr. Judith E. Grisel is a behavioral neuroscientist and Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Bucknell University. A former National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) principal investigator and past president of the International Behavioral and Neural Genetics Society, Dr. Grisel’s research explores the interplay between genetics, stress, and s*x differences in vulnerability to substance use disorders.

She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Colorado at Boulder, followed by postdoctoral work at Oregon Health Sciences University and the VA Medical Center in Portland. Her decades-long research has been supported by the NIH, NIDA, and private foundations, leading to more than 70 peer-reviewed publications that have shaped the scientific understanding of endorphins, alcohol sensitivity, and the neurobiology of reward.

Dr. Grisel is also the author of the New York Times bestseller Never Enough: The Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction (Doubleday, 2019), a widely acclaimed blend of memoir and science that has been featured by NPR’s Fresh Air, Science Magazine, CBS News, and the World Economic Forum. She has delivered invited talks at global institutions including the National Institute of Mental Health, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and the Australian & New Zealand Addiction Conference.

Beyond academia, Dr. Grisel has devoted her career to public science communication and addiction education. Her TEDx talk “Never Enough” and TED-Ed series on alcohol and the brain have reached millions worldwide. As a scientist, speaker, and advocate, she continues to illuminate how biology and experience converge to shape the human drive for pleasure — and the possibility of recovery.

Join us as Executive Director Bill Stauffer opens PRO‑A’s 9th Annual Leadership Event, setting the tone for a day of vision, advocacy, and forward‑thinking leadership in a high‑potency world. As drug trends evolve at unprecedented speed, Bill will launch us into a conversation about how recovery processes—coproduced with the recovery community—must adapt even faster. His opening remarks will frame the urgent need for prevention, community education, and long‑term recovery strategies that extend far beyond overdose reversal and acute care, highlighting the experiential knowledge and real‑time adaptability required to sustain recovery in today’s rapidly shifting landscape.

We will host a half‑day training with approved NAADAC continuing education credits. This year’s sessions include A Recovery Movement Approach to To***co Addiction Recovery and Making the Scientific Research on Cannabis Use More Accessible: True W**d. Following the trainings, we will gather for a dinner filled with food, fellowship, and the presentation of awards honoring Pennsylvania’s Champions of Service.
